Northeast Elementary School celebrates the first day of prekindergarten

Prekindergarten students at Northeast Elementary School in the Amityville School District kicked off their educational journey during their first day of school on Sept. 16.

Teachers, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Mary Stephens and Northeast Principal Dr. Pauline Collins greeted each student to celebrate their first year of school. Many of the students, joined by their parents/guardians, familiarized themselves with the school during pre-K orientation on Sept. 13.

The district welcomes its newest learners and looks forward to a successful year ahead.

Amityville’s pre-K students explore interactive unit on animals

Prekindergartners in the Amityville School District learned about animals of the past and present during their field trip to the Tanglewood Preserve Center for Science and Learning in Rockville Centre.

Students got to explore the preserve’s dinosaur exhibit where they viewed robotic and skeletal life size dinosaurs. They also viewed plenty of live animals such as snakes, birds and turtles.

Amityville’s kindergartners tour the Nassau County Firefighters Museum

Kindergartners in the Amityville School District took a field trip to the Nassau County Firefighters Museum in Uniondale during week three of their Summer Academic Success Program.

Students got to view a wide variety of fire apparatus from 1834 to present day. The museum’s collection includes hand pulled carts, horse drawn steamers, ladder trucks, pumpers and tankers. Students also learned about importance of fire safety.

Students in grades pre-K-2 in the Amityville School District have celebrated several weeks of interactive learning during their Summer Academic Success Program at Northwest Elementary School.

During week one, students participated in numerous activities such as camping, picnics, arts and crafts, and they created tasty smores. The program has featured students from both Northeast Elementary School and Northwest Elementary School.
