Edmund W. Miles inducts 22 National Junior Honor Society members

Edmund W. Miles Middle School in Amityville proudly recently hosted its annual National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony in the school gymnasium.
This year, 22 students were officially inducted, joining a long-standing tradition of recognizing young leaders who exemplify scholarship, leadership, citizenship, service, and character. The NJHS is more than an honor — it is a commitment to uphold high academic standards while positively impacting the school and broader community. Being selected for membership reflects not only students’ strong academic performance but also their dedication to making a difference through leadership, community service, and ethical behavior.
The new inductees for 2026 are: Belkie Arevalo, Emily Casasola-Guzman, Bridgeth Chavez Ponce, Harper DeBruin, Natasha Diaz, Grayson Egan, Emely Espinal, Asnel Fernandez, Jessica Joyce, Richard Leach, Jonathan Lys, Esther Majano Alvarado, Angel Mendez Oliva, Celeste Mendoza Urias, Brianna Mejia, Keyla Perez Herrera, Jaxon Romain, Emily Tejada, Olivia Thomas, Nathan Thorpe, Jeremy Xo Chocooj, and Allison Yanes Bonilla.
During the ceremony, students Gabriella Cabrera, Jamie Torres, and Emmy Velasquez led the candle-lighting portion, symbolizing the values and responsibilities each inductee embraces as a member of the NJHS. Principal Ms. Rose Hutcherson, joined by district administrators, commended the students for their hard work, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
The district congratulates this year’s inductees, celebrating their accomplishments and the promise they bring to the school community. Through their example, these students demonstrate that true leadership combines achievement with service, creating a positive and lasting impact for those around them.
