Board of Education Meeting Highlights: Investing in Our Schools

Hello, Amityville families!

At our latest Board of Education meeting, the district celebrated an important community achievement and shared updates on improvements taking place across our schools as we continue investing in safe, welcoming and modern learning environments for our students.

Celebrating Our Pre-K–5 PTA

The Board recognized and congratulated the Amityville Pre-K–5 PTA for earning the National PTA School of Excellence designation for three of our schools. The recognition reflects the PTA’s work to strengthen connections among families, schools and the community through increased communication, accessible meetings and opportunities for families to get involved.

Improvements Across Our Schools 

Director of Facilities Al Gallina provided the Board with an extensive update on projects completed, underway and planned throughout the district.

From renovations at Edmund W. Miles Middle School and improvements to our athletic fields and playgrounds to upgraded public address systems, safer traffic patterns, new flooring, fencing, roofing and other infrastructure work, the district continues to make improvements that enhance student safety, learning, accessibility and the overall school experience.

Among the upcoming projects highlighted was a significant renovation of the Edmund W. Miles Middle School athletic field, including regrading and leveling the field, installing irrigation and removing the aging basketball and handball courts. Additional improvements are planned throughout our elementary schools and Amityville Memorial High School.

Looking Ahead: Clean Green Schools

The district is also preparing to pursue funding through the Clean Green Schools Grant Program, which is designed to help reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

The funding opportunity could provide up to $5 million for a single building or $10 million total. As part of the process, the district will complete an energy audit and feasibility study and prepare its application with assistance from a FlexTech consultant. The next phase of the grant process is anticipated for the first quarter of 2027.

These updates represent our continued commitment to thoughtful planning, responsible investment and providing our students and staff with facilities they can be proud of.
