Amityville Boys Soccer Coach Mike Abbondondolo Celebrates 200th Career Victory

Amityville Memorial High School varsity boys soccer coach Mike Abbondondolo reached a significant career milestone on Wednesday, Oct. 14, earning his 200th victory as the Amityville Tide defeated Miller Place 9-0 on their home field.
Abbondondolo, who has led the Amityville boys soccer program since 2013, has established an impressive record of success, guiding the Tide to three New York State championships (2015, 2018 and 2022), five Long Island championships and five Suffolk County championships. A five-time Suffolk County Coach of the Year, he has also coached four student-athletes who earned Suffolk County Soccer Player of the Year honors.
Adding to the program’s accomplishments, the Amityville boys soccer team earned a spot in the top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches Fall Boys Region II rankings this season. With another competitive season underway, Abbondondolo and the Tide have their sights set on making another run at the New York State championship.
“Reaching 200 career victories is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to Coach Abbondondolo’s dedication to our student-athletes and the Amityville soccer program,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert. “While the wins and championships are certainly worth celebrating, what makes his impact so meaningful is the lasting influence he has had on generations of students. Through his leadership, our student-athletes have learned the importance of teamwork, perseverance, discipline and striving for excellence both on and off the field. We are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with him.”

While Abbondondolo’s name is attached to the milestone, he is quick to recognize that the program’s success has been a team effort. Throughout his tenure, Chris Gannon and his father, Mike Abbondondolo Sr., have been instrumental in building and sustaining the Amityville boys soccer program. Together, their shared commitment, dedication and passion for the game have helped establish a championship culture that continues to inspire generations of Tide student-athletes. Their longstanding partnership has been a cornerstone of the program’s success, both on and off the field.
Throughout his tenure, Abbondondolo has helped build Amityville into a championship-winning soccer program, developing talented student-athletes while establishing a tradition of competitive excellence. His success reflects years of commitment to fostering athletic achievement, teamwork and personal growth among his players.
“Coach Abbondondolo has built a program that represents the very best of Amityville athletics,” said Director of Athletics Evan Farkas. “His ability to develop players, build strong teams and maintain a culture of excellence year after year speaks volumes about his leadership. Two hundred victories is an incredible achievement, and we congratulate him on this well-deserved milestone.”
The Amityville Union Free School District congratulates Abbondondolo on his 200th career victory and recognizes the collective dedication of the coaches, student-athletes and supporters who have contributed to the proud tradition of Tide soccer.
