Amityville appoints Angelica Rodriguez as director of ENL, bilingual education and world languages

The Amityville Union Free School District is pleased to announce the promotion of Angelica Rodriguez to director of English as a new language, bilingual education and world languages. Currently serving as assistant principal at Amityville Memorial High School, Rodriguez brings more than a decade of experience in education, with a strong background in language instruction, curriculum development and supporting multilingual learners.
Rodriguez will help strengthen ENL, bilingual education and world language programs, support instructional practices and expand opportunities for students to develop language proficiency, achieve academic success and prepare for college, careers and beyond.
Since joining Amityville Memorial High School as assistant principal in 2024, Rodriguez has played an instrumental role in advancing academic programs and supporting student achievement. Among her accomplishments, she has helped expand participation in the New York State Seal of Biliteracy program, increasing the number of participating students from 12 to more than 40. The program recognizes graduating students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language.
Rodriguez has also supported multilingual learners through New York State's 4+1 World Languages pathway to graduation, helping expand access to diploma opportunities while maintaining rigorous academic expectations. Her work has included overseeing state assessments, supporting Advanced Placement programming, providing professional development for educators and collaborating with families to strengthen student engagement.
“Ms. Rodriguez has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to ensuring that every student has access to meaningful educational opportunities, regardless of their language background,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gina Talbert. “Her experience, passion for multilingual education and understanding of our school community make her exceptionally well-suited for this role. As we continue moving Amityville forward, her leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our language programs, supporting our educators and ensuring that our multilingual learners have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.”
Prior to joining Amityville, Rodriguez served as chairperson of the World Languages Department at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School, where she supervised language educators, coordinated the Seal of Biliteracy program and developed curriculum for Spanish heritage language learners. She also served as a Spanish teacher and program leader at Uniondale High School from 2015 to 2023, teaching courses including Advanced Placement Spanish Literature, honors Spanish, heritage language instruction and Native Language Arts.
Rodriguez earned a Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Molloy University. She also holds school building leadership certification and an educational technology specialist certificate from Molloy University, as well as a certificate in Spanish linguistics from the University of León in Spain.
