Amityville Students Use Their Voices at Red Ribbon Town Hall

Amityville students used their voices, talents and personal experiences to promote healthy choices during the 2026 Red Ribbon Town Hall at Babylon Town Hall.
Held as part of Red Ribbon Week, the event brought together students, families, community organizations and local leaders around this year’s theme, “Be a Superhero, Stay Drug Free!”
A special moment of the evening came when the Rising Tide Amityville Youth Coalition, an Amityville Memorial High School student club, was presented with a proclamation from the Town of Babylon recognizing Red Ribbon Week 2026 and the importance of prevention, education and community involvement.
Amityville students also played a prominent role throughout the program. Naomi Chavez Duran performed the National Anthem, while Rose Bolane delivered a powerful spoken-word poem reflecting on her childhood in Haiti. Rose shared her experience growing up surrounded by drugs and violence and reflected on how, as a child, she did not fully understand what she was witnessing. Today, she uses her voice to advocate for young people and raise awareness about the importance of safe and supportive environments.
The Amityville High School Step Team took the stage for a dance performance, while members of the Tri-M Music Honor Society performed “Bésame Mucho.” The Amityville Memorial High School Broadcast Club also contributed to the evening by creating a public service announcement video supporting the Red Ribbon campaign and its message of making healthy, drug-free choices.
From advocacy and student leadership to music, dance and media production, the evening gave Amityville students multiple opportunities to contribute to an important community conversation.
We are proud of our students for representing the Tide and demonstrating what can happen when young people are given meaningful opportunities to lead, create and use their voices to make a difference.
