Northeast celebrates literacy during its annual Spring Learning Night

Literacy took center stage at Northeast Elementary School in Amityville on March 24 as pre-K and kindergarten students gathered for the school’s annual Spring Learning Night.
Held in the school gymnasium, the event transformed the space into a vibrant celebration of reading, inspired by beloved children’s authors Eric Carle and Dr. Seuss. Students and their families enjoyed an evening filled with interactive literacy-based activities designed to spark imagination and foster a love of books.
A highlight of the evening was a special visit from guest author Melissa Marshall, who read aloud to students and shared her books and illustrations, offering a firsthand look at the creative process behind storytelling. Adding to the festive atmosphere, students and teachers donned decorative crowns and mustaches inspired by iconic storybook characters as they participated in a variety of engaging games and activities celebrating literacy.
Spring Learning Night provided a joyful opportunity for the Amityville school community to come together, reinforcing the importance of early literacy while making learning fun and memorable for its youngest students.
