Northwest Elementary School Social Worker Ms. Debra Lee partnered with Mr. Kewsi Williams and Ms. Shari Joyner from L3Harris Amityville for the Read Across America Initiative, celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday.
L3Harris Technologies’ LEAD (Employees of African Decent) and LIFT (Investing For Tomorrow) groups sponsored the event, bringing volunteers from the company to read The Magnificent Makers: Human Body Adventures to excited students. The L3Harris volunteers read and shared details about their exciting careers in aerospace, defense and technology. The students shared their future goals with the volunteers. The students were engaged and inspired, and they asked a lot of great questions.
As a token of appreciation, students in Mrs. Karnewich’s class created heartfelt thank-you cards for the volunteers. The fun finale included every student receiving a copy of the book to continue the adventure at home.
It was a day full of learning, inspiration, and fun — a perfect way to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Northwest is grateful for the partnership with L3Harris Amityville.
